A story about a much-loved VW Kombi, a trip around Australia and shipping the old girl back to the UK

Travelling around South America in a Kombi

I was sent a link a little while back and it’s taken me a while to get around to posting something here. I don’t understand the text on this site but that doesn’t matter - it’s good enough that there are loads of pics of a hard looking camouflaged Kombi making its way through various South American terrain:

Heading into the rainforest

And I think there may have been an engine repair or two along the way …

Kaboom - the engine needs a bit of work

Go check out the site for yourself - this is one well-travelled bus.

I am currently writing my fourth book, La Familia Hayburg: Down Under, and am researching the start up of a very successful company in Australia, Wayward Bus (www.waywardbus.com.au), which has a significant part in the story. I needed to look further into the first tour in 1994, and found out that a VW combi van was used. That has led me to your site. How interesting!
I now have a new perspective and understanding. Recalling 30 or 40 years ago in the USA, those VW buses were extremely practical, albeit loud. Thanks for the pix on your site!–”Juanito Hayburg”

I guess the site you link to is written in spanish. You can easily translate it to english using Google Translate or something like that.

BTW — nice camper and a nice blog. :)
